Who You Should Be Following On Instagram

It's no secret that my favorite form of social media is Instagram... Especially now that you aren't limited to just posting "square pictures." I love following awesome pages. A lot of the people I follow are bloggers, but I also follow a bunch of just straight up cool pages. Here's my list of Instagram accounts that you should be following (especially if you're a blogger-- read why bloggers should be on Instagram here)!

Confessions Of A Twenty-Something Year Old

Do you remember the Lindsay Lohan movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen? It's really not that great of a movie, but lately, I've had my sassy pants on & I'm feeling similar to Lindsay's character in the movie. Here's my confessions of a twenty-something year old

-I confess that I'm overly ready for fall. In fact, I'm so ready for fall that my house already has fall decorations up.

-I confess that I believe it's okay to have coffee multiple times a day.

-I confess that I'm also overly obsessed with Taylor Swift.

-I confess that I'm an introvert... And I'm a pretty hardcore one.

-I confess that I love French fries, no matter how bad they are for me.

-I confess that I could probably wear a hat every day for the rest of my life.

-I confess that candles are my weakness.

-I confess that I hate driving. If I had a ton of money, I'd hire a chauffeur to take me everywhere.

-I confess that when people ask me when Andrew & I are going to have a baby, I want to say, "It's none of your business."

-On that note, I also confess that every time I see "bumper pads" in a baby's crib, I want to go run & save that baby's life. One word: SIDS. If you don't believe me, check out here

-I confess that I think Donald Trump needs a new hairstyle.

-I confess that "Sassy" is probably my real middle name.

-I confess that I'm all about those stripes lately in the fashion world.

-I confess that I cry at least one time in every season of Grey's Anatomy.

-I confess that I love sunflowers & peonies like every other girl in the world.

There you have it, folks. Some of my twenty-something year old confessions. What are some of your confessions? Any that relate to mine?

The Most Annoying Things At The Doctor's Office

As I'm writing this, I'm currently listening to some of the most annoying things at a doctor's office. People seem to have lost all common courtesy when sitting at the doctor's office. It amazes me how inconsiderate people are to others. While my mom is sitting in her sinus surgery, I have to listen to the annoyances of someone who thinks that they're more important than anyone else in the room. So here's some things that are annoying (& FRANKLY RUDE) at the doctor's office.

-Not turning your phone on silent.
I get it, we live in the technology age where we all sit & stare at some sort of electronic device all day. But just because it's fine to quietly text or scroll through Facebook, doesn't mean you should leave your phone on LOUD. I don't care that you have a really important phone call to make about what you're eating for lunch, GO OUTSIDE OR IN THE HALLWAY. And for goodness sake, take that annoying iPhone-typing clicking noise off. I don't need to know how many words per minute you're typing.

-Eating.
You know, I'm hungry too, but please stop smacking.

-Talking in a normal voice (not whispering).
Don't you know that it's common courtesy to whisper in a quite place? We all don't need to know EVERYTHING about your personal life... Especially when you're at the doctor's office. One word: HIPAA.

-Coughing.
Ugh, I understand you're sick, but please don't get me sick too in the process. I try to keep my 20-something year old immune system in line over here.

-Tapping.
That pen & those shoes though. Please, just stop. My nerves are about to explode.

-Soap operas.
Why are we always forced to watch soap operas at the doctor's office? LIKE, THAT'S NOT EVEN GOOD ACTING. Turn it to a family show.

-Cussing.
If you want to participate in such language in your personal life, that's between you & God. But for me to have to sit & listen to you say the "f-bomb" or other inappropriate words, THAT'S RIDICULOUS. And it's also just flat out disrespectful & rude.

I hope you all can relate to these annoyances... Or maybe YOU are that annoying person. Next time you're at the doctor's office, remember these things & be respectful to the people around you.

Rant over.

A Blogging Interview With JennyPennyAho!

I'm so excited to introduce my new blogger friend, Jenny from the blog JennyPennyAho! Jenny emailed me a while back about collaborating together to help grow each other's blogs. It's been great working with her & getting to know her. I wanted to interview her to help YOU as the reader, get to know her better. Check out her awesome blog HERE & stay awhile! Also, over on her blog, she interviewed me which you should definitely check out!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I was born and raised in Delaware. I have a younger sister named Becky. After 24 years of living in Delaware, I made the decision to move out west to be with boyfriend. I’ve always been a beach lover, but after living in Colorado, Nevada and now New Mexico, I now have a love for mountains and gorgeous western sunsets.  Seth and I met on a blind date ten and half years ago and we’ve been married for the almost five years. I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 12 years and most recently switched gears and obtained my Master’s in Nursing Education.  I just accepted a teaching position at a local university and I start next week. I’m stoked to start my new career in teaching.  My husband and I own three houses, but we have tenants in two of them. We have a two-year-old Finnish Spitz named Hugo.  My husband calls me a “crazy dog mom.”

How did you know you wanted to take up blogging?
Last August, my husband was in a terrible ATV accident and a week later I joined a website to spread news about his progress to family and friends.  It has been 11 months and we have over 9,000 visits to the site.  Everyone who visits the site has informed me they either start or end their day by reading my journal entries.  After posting entries about Seth’s progress, I decided to start a blog so I could talk about my passions – spirits and eats, travel and my lifestyle.  My parents and grandparents have always called me Jenny Penny, so it seemed fitting to name my blog:  JennyPennyAho.

What or who inspires your blog?
Everyday happenings inspire my blog. Sometimes I have a list of things to write about and other times something happens to me and suddenly I am inspired to write my next post. I am inspired to write more blog posts when my readers have positive feedback about my posts (especially my “Great Eats Edition.”)

What do you enjoy blogging about?
My “life” posts are near and dear to my heart.  I am an extrovert and I love being around people. My “life” posts are the easiest to write and before I know it I’m clicking the “publish” button.

Besides blogging, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
-I was a runner in high school and I still get out to run several days a week. Running helps me to de-stress and sometimes it helps me burn off my “crazy” too.
-When I lived in Vegas, my friend Tawnya started a wine club.  Wine Club is a great way to spend time with good friends and taste different wines while eating a nice meal together.
-I love taking Hugo to the dog park.  Watching him run around with a happy face (if you have a dog — you know what I mean) and play with other dogs makes me happy.
-I love making personalized gifts for friends.  My mom passed along her craftiness and I have a knack for it.
-I love to get out of the house and explore new places. We have a group of friends whom we go skiing with every other year, but since Seth’s accident, we decided we would switch to summer instead of winter.  I look forward to planning our next “BAMM-cation.”  (BAMM is the first initial of our last names).
-I binge watch CSI Las Vegas on Hulu Plus and I don’t feel guilty one bit!

Who is your favorite blogger?
My favorite blogger is Emily on The Freckled Fox. I was on Pinterest looking at hairstyles and ended up pinning one of her gorgeous hairstyles. I’ve been following her blog for months now. I like how “real” she is and I love her style of clothes and reading about her lifestyle. She is a realistic blogger — I feel like I know Emily and her family.

What are your overall goals for your blog?
My overall goals for my blog are to put a smile on my reader’s faces, make them laugh and/or contemplate what they’ve just read.  I know those are not “measurable goals,” like what I learned to write in my graduate studies, but when I read comments left by my readers, it provides affirmation of why I started this blog.  In the end, if I can make someone happy, smile or view something through different colored glasses, then I know I did my job as a blogger.

Thanks, Jenny, for your awesome interview! Remember to check her blog out here & feel free to leave her a comment or two! ALSO, make sure you check out the interview that Jenny did for me on her blog as well! :)

15 Reasons I'm Overjoyed That I Don't Have To Go Back To School

This is the first time in my life I don't have a "first day of school." I'm done with school forever (hopefully--unless I randomly get bored & change my mind one day). As you may remember, I graduated college in May with my Bachelors degree in Family Life Education- Child Development. Although I never really enjoyed school, I might KIND OF miss the learning aspect of it. Don't worry though, one day I'll go to a conference or something to make up for that. Since today is the first day of school for my alma mater, here's some reasons why I'm overjoyed that I DON'T have to go back to school.

1. No more commuting 30 miles to & from.
*stuck in traffic for an extra 30 minutes*

2. No more boring lectures where I have to keep myself from falling asleep by doodling.
"Self, how many times can I write my name?"

3. No more paying for unnecessary "fees."
"That'll be $1,500 for breathing our air."

4. No more "service learning" projects.
"You'll have to go visit a facility in your free time. We will NOT take time out of class to do this."

5. No more having night classes that last until 10:15 (& then having to commute home).
*Zzz*

6. No more buying textbooks.
"That'll be $1,200 for a 20 page book written by your professor."

7. No more emailing professors who never respond.
*crickets*

8. No more writing papers.
"Write a 40 page, single spaced paper over what you love about your professor's hair."

9. No more silly poster boards or "busy work."
"Please do a trifold poster board over why the sky is blue."

10. No more fighting enrollment to get into the class you need.
*having to wake up to enroll at 5:00 A.M. to find out the class you were trying to get into was full*

11. No more tuition.
"That'll be $702,584 for taking 12 credit hours."

12. No more icebreakers.
"Introduce yourself to your neighbor & write down 100 facts about yourself & memorize what the other person wrote down."

13. No more group projects.
*does the whole project by herself*

14. No more presentations.
*palms sweat, voice cracks, throwing up might actually happen*

15. No more college... BECAUSE. I'M. FINISHED. FOREVER.
*#holla*

So pumped I don't have to go back today. Happy Monday, y'all!

We All Have A Little Shania Twain In Us

Last night, I went with my friend, Emilee, to see Shania Twain & Gavin Degraw in concert. IT WAS AWESOME. I was never a huge Shania fan like Emilee, but I was expecting great things from this concert. I also really love Gavin Degraw (who opened for Shania) & he did absolutely fantastic. His voice is even better live. I realized though, while I was at the concert, that we all have a little Shania Twain in us. You may be asking yourself, "What do you mean I have a little Shania Twain in me?!" Let me answer that question for you.

When Shania came out to perform, she started singing & honestly, I thought to myself, "She doesn't sound all that great anymore. She's just a country singer that's been off for a little too long & is trying to make a comeback to prove to herself that she's still got it now that she's older." After she started singing her second song though, I realized how wrong I was about her. She's still got it, folks!

We all have a little Shania in us because a lot of us think that we can't do things we used to anymore. For example, I used to play basketball, & although I wasn't that great, I was pretty decent. Now when the opportunity arises for me to play for fun, I hesitate to shoot the ball because I'm afraid that I don't have what it takes anymore. But every now & then, I prove myself wrong with a nice "swoosh" into the basketball goal.

My point is, don't give up. A lot of us think that we're too old to do something or even though we used to do it, we don't have what it takes anymore. You shouldn't give up on something that you enjoy doing. Shania didn't! And she looked amazing & sang her heart out on stage doing it.

So don't be a quitter. Don't give up on your dreams. And remember, if Shania Twain can do it & not give up, so can you.

Here's some pictures that you can "enjoy" from the concert last night (with poor iPhone quality in a bad lit arena)! :)

^Gavin Degraw came to the row right next to us!

^Shania & Gavin singing "Party for Two" together!

^Oh, hey girl.

What do you think? You have some Shania in you? Let me know!

Why Bloggers Should Be On Instagram

I'm not going to lie, I love Instagram. It's definitely my favorite source of social media (besides blogging). It blows my mind though, how people who are trying to grow their blog & gain more readers, aren't on Instagram (or even any source of social media for that matter).

Your blog has to stand out in a world full of other bloggers. Honestly, I don't know how to make that happen other than through social media. I get most of my readers that way. Instagram is one of my top sources. Participating in things such as the Instagram challenges that Helene in Between has hosted, has really helped my blog traffic grow. I've also gained new blogging friends who I interact with via Instagram.

Instagram is strictly pictures, likes & comments. Interacting with other bloggers is easy because of that. Your comments don't have to be anything long or drawn-out, just make it genuine. I usually say what I like about the picture, complement what they're wearing or say how I relate to the post. I notice when people take the time to consistently like & comment on my pictures. Most likely, other bloggers will notice too.

Not only should you be posting & interacting on Instagram, but you should be using hashtags. When I first started blogging, I used very generic hashtags. And then I read one of the best posts in the whole entire blogging world... You can find it here from Sarah @ Venus Trapped in Mars. These hashtags will do wonders for a blogger on Instagram. I also use Helene's hashtags to stay in touch with people who have participated in her Instagram challenges.

Instagram will most likely fade in popularity over time, but as of right now, if you're a blogger & you're not on Instagram, you should really change that. Like, change it now. And while you're at it, follow me & keep in touch!

8 Signs You've Worked Retail

I've worked in retail since I was 16 years old. Retail is chaotic. It's completely nuts. If you've never worked it, you won't understand this post (just like I've never worked in the food industry, so I don't understand anything about it).

Working in retail, you constantly have to deal with people. Whether it's fellow employees or trying to help customers. Some days are great, other times, you're ready to head home ASAP. Here's some signs that you've worked retail at some point in your life.

1. You can't go anywhere that is about to close within the next 30 minutes.
If you've worked retail, you don't want to be "that person" that makes an employee stay past closing. We all hate when someone walks in & says, "Lucky me! I made it right before you closed!" All you want to say is, "We've been open all day... You're choosing NOW, right before closing, to "buy" something?"

2. You fold clothing back the right way.
When you decide you don't like those jeans you picked up off the table, you don't just throw them back... You neatly organize them the way they were originally folded (& in size order as well). You also hang items back up after you try them on in the dressing room.

3. Seeing kids run in a store makes you cringe.
How many times have you picked up something after a kid knocks it over? Especially after working in a younger girls' clothing store as my first job, I have done it countless times. When you're at a store, you instantly look for the parent & give them the evil eye that secretly says, "Watch your children!"

4. You pray for employees who work on Black Friday or Tax Free Weekend.
In Oklahoma, this past weekend was tax free. I literally pray for employees who have to deal with crazy shoppers on Tax Free Weekend & on Black Friday. And then after you work Black Friday once, you never have to participate in the shopping "excitement" again. No thanks, I'll stay home in my pajamas on Black Friday (or should I say "Black Thursday" now?).

5. You never return anything unless you absolutely have to.
Ugh. We all know that feeling when someone comes in & says, "I need to return my $500 worth of stuff." Really? Why did you buy it in the first place? Unless something was wrong with it or you got doubles (or even triples) as a wedding present, you refuse to take anything back.

6. You have heard the same joke more than once & have the same exact response every time.
I currently work at a pool store & I can't tell you how many jokes I've heard multiple times. "I found that credit card in the parking lot," or "I just printed that $100 before I came here," or even "You want to come help me clean my pool now?" I think I respond with the same exact few words every time.

7. You have a pretty tough shell, but you can also respond quickly when someone steps on your toes.
After my Dad passed away, I wore his wedding ring as a necklace for a while. I had a customer tell me (soon after he died), "That ring must have been from a fat man!" I was absolutely shocked he said that, but I had a good response for him that made him not say anything else. Sometimes you can't believe what people will say to you when you work retail. You get nasty old men who have nothing better to do than to hit on young girls, so you just learn to say, "Why don't you tell that same thing to my husband & see how he likes it?" Yep, that's retail for ya.

8. Although sometimes you wonder why you work it, it can also be rewarding.
When a customer tells you how thankful they are for your help, it makes the job easier. It's also encouraging when you have regular & loyal customers who know you & always treat you wonderfully.

Have you ever worked retail before? Do you relate to these signs as well? Let me know!

An Evening With Sunflowers!

Last night, Andrew & I decided that we were going to drive around & try to find some pretty sunflowers so I could take some pictures with my new fancy camera (I've been wanting to practice using it more). Although I'm definitely not a professional by any means at all, its amazing what a nice camera can do compared to just an iPhone camera. I played around with the lighting outside & adjusted them some on my computer, but some of the pictures actually turned out pretty decent! I love sunflowers so these pictures are right up my alley... Hope you enjoy :)

^My trusty sidekick

^It's kind of hard to tell, but there's a bee on this one!

Hope you have a great weekend, everyone! What should be our next picture stop?! Any suggestions?

P.S. I also won a $50 shop credit giveaway last night to Sweet T's Design! Check out their adorable shirts on Etsy!

Why You Should Be Ready For Fall

Fall is absolutely my most favorite season ever, hands down. I love it. The past few days, I can't stop thinking about how I'm so ready for fall. I'm so over this heat. Although some of you may enjoy other seasons, here are a few reasons why you should be ready for fall...

-It's not hot anymore.

-The air is crisp.

-People start using their fireplace, so it smells great outside.

-The leaves fall.

-It's sweater weather.

-It's leggings weather.

-It's boots weather.

(*Clearly I'm excited about the clothing attire of fall*)

-The trees are beautiful because they change colors.

-Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back.

-People are in a better mood because football is on (even though I don't like it).

-Kids go back to school so the mall is less crowded.

-Christmas is quickly approaching.

I'm so excited for fall. Are you?? What's your favorite season?

Back To School Favorites!

I graduated college in May, but there's something that's still exciting about walking past school supplies at Target. It makes you feel like you have a fresh start on things. Even though I'm not going back to school this coming up semester (HOLLA!), I decided I could still make a list of all my back to school favs!

Favorite Agenda/Planner
Seriously, this agenda is so cute & really fun! They have other patterns & colors as well (but clearly this is my fav).

Favorite Top

Flybird Apparel is one of my favorite brands. They are all about promoting positivity & happiness through their brand. I have this shirt from them & I really like this new one they came out with today!

Favorite Notebook

I LOVE May Designs! You can make everything your own. They have different patterns & designs that you can custom make. You also can choose what you want the inside to be-- plain lines, food planner, agenda, wedding diary, etc. Also, use the code SUMMER30 right now for 30% off your order!

Favorite Hat

I just bought this hat the other day & I'm so excited to break it out this fall! It's not a straw hat, so it will be great for fall & it's super cute on. Plus it's currently BOGO on their website & in stores!

Favorite Coffee Mug

Is there anything truer than this? Coffee is the best thing ever & this mug is awesome.

Favorite Backpack

I have an older version of this backpack & it has lasted me 5 years. It's a great purchase for someone entering college because of it's durability & features!

Favorite Striped Tunic

I have the black background, white stripes version of this tunic & love it. It's so comfy & an easy, casual-cute outfit!

Favorite Pen Set

Who doesn't love fun pens?! These are so cute & will (hopefully) keep you entertained while you're setting through a lecture!

These are a few of my back to school favorites! Hope you enjoy & have a happy Monday! What are some of your back to school favs??
