Current Distractions

Monday-schmunday. Maybe you're always bright & chipper on Mondays. Or maybe you're like the rest of us who just wish they could stay in bed all day (#holla). For those of you who are like me, if you're reading this blog right now, you may be distracted-- either from work, school or just your typical Monday task. That's fine, because this post is all about my current distractions. Because clearly (since it's Monday & all), I'm all sorts of distracted & I wish I could've stayed in bed & cuddled with Murphy all day.

I'm currently distracted by:

*This necklace. Over the weekend, I gave in & ordered one. I'm so excited to get it in the mail. I typically don't even like jewelry, but the simplicity of this necklace & the fact that two of my favorite bloggers (Helene & Taylor) both have one, make me super excited to receive it. (P.S. There's a 20% off coupon on her Etsy page right now + free shipping on orders over $50! You're welcome.)

*Murphy. I mean duh. He's just so stinkin' adorable. I just want to hug him all the time.

*Wishing for cooler weather so I can wear sweaters & boots.

*This dress. Ugh. I need to stop spending money... But this is so cute. Andrew, please?? :)

*On that note... Andrew. I mean, you're the best husband that any girl could ever possibly ask for. And you love me unconditionally. Even when I ask you to buy me stuff.

*The Blacklist. We started watching this show on Netflix the other day & I'm just so interested in the main characters' lives. Like, who do you trust on the show?

*And Grey's Anatomy. Because, why must Meredith's life be so complicated? I know I'm only in season 8, but still... girl, get it together.

*My current want/love for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream & knowing that I need to look "beach appropriate" in November.

*This story/video. Because who doesn't love dogs that ride on a train?

What are you distracted by today?

Life Lately With The Cunningham Fam

I figured it's been a while since I've done a good ole' fashion "life lately" post! I mean, I know you all are just dying to hear about the Cunningham fam's juicy, elegant life. Maybe we'll have our own reality show like the Kardashian's one day. Then again, I don't want to go down to their level. I'll stick with our "simple" lifestyle. :)

Murphy is losing teeth left & right. I have totally been playing that "mom card" wanting to keep all of his baby teeth. But I've surprisingly been throwing them away (as I should).

We remodeled our living room. It looks AWESOME. All I need now is to add some curtains & work on that gallery wall I've been dreaming about forever now.

We are planning to remodel our kitchen next. We talked originally about starting the project this weekend, but we're both still exhausted from the living room renovation. We decided we'll push it back for another week or so (*maybe*)... haha.

I recently created my very own media kit. I sent my first "pitch" to see if a company wanted to collaborate with me yesterday. I'm both excited & nervous to hear back!

I'm quitting work at the pool store. At the end of October, I'll be leaving the pool store to focus on volunteering & helping my family. This is what I've wanted to do all my life. Maybe you'll hear more about it in a future post!

Andrew & I are looking forward to two trips in our near future. We are going on a much needed getaway with just the two of us in November, & then in December, we're taking my mom with us to go see my dad's family in Ohio. We are excited for both trips!

We really enjoyed this video that Jimmy Fallon did the other night.

We are stoked about the holidays. Okay, probably I'm the one who's stoked about the holidays.

Murphy has been extra cuddly lately. I love it so much!

I'm participating in TWO webinars this coming up week. I absolutely love blogging & I'm thrilled that my blog is growing. For that reason, I enjoy participating in webinars with successful bloggers. The two I'm joining in on are Melissa & Mariah @ The Nectar Collective which is tomorrow & Helene @ Helene In Between next Wednesday! My fellow bloggers should join in on the excitement!

That's life lately with the Cunningham Fam! What's new in your life?

How To Move On

I try to keep the vibe on this blog positive because there's so much negativity in our world, but that doesn't mean I can't share some personal things I've experienced. I've gone through a lot in my short 22 years of life. I'd like to say that because of it, I've grown a lot. One of the biggest things I have experienced so far is the sudden death of my dad.

This coming up February, it will be four years since he passed away. My dad was fine one minute & gone the next. In the blink of an eye, really. It all happened so fast. I won't go into a lot of details, but my mom & I had a pretty traumatic morning on that cold, February day. I was only 18 years old. None of my friends at the time had ever lost a parent. I pretty much felt alone at that moment.

When you go through something traumatic, you often wonder how you will ever move on past that point. I can't say enough about the consistent people who were there with me every step of the way through my grieving process. I read a post by Sarah @ Venus Trapped In Mars recently that talked about her losing her dad when she was 19. She mentioned that she ended up losing a lot of her friends because she was constantly changing due to the fact that she was grieving. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was doing the same thing. I found out who was truly there for me no matter what, even when I was changing.

The one thing that was always consistent for me though, was my heavenly Father. If you don't know Jesus as your Lord & Savior, you may not understand this part of my post. But stick with me. When I was sitting on the floor of the hospital room, trying to make sense of everything, I felt an overwhelming peace. I realized that I was going to be okay. Even though I couldn't see it at the time, I knew God was there for me every step of the way. He was always consistent. He was & IS always there. People in your life come & go, but God never changes. He still does great things.

One of those great things was bringing Andrew to me right when I needed him. Andrew & I started dating December 2011. Dad died February 2012. My dad loved Andrew. I think he knew that Andrew & I would get married one day. The reason why I think that is because exactly one week before my dad died, Andrew kissed me for the first time. I told my mom & dad the day after, & all I remember my dad saying was, "FINALLY!" I think he knew I would be taken care of-- both on this earth by Andrew & by God getting me through this life.

So the point of this blog post is "how to move on." Honestly, I don't have any other solution for you other than to trust in Jesus. I can't imagine going through the death of a loved one without Him. Also realize, it takes time to move on. It's not going to be something that happens overnight. For me, it's happened over many years & I'm still not completely "over it." But you learn how to "deal with" not having that person here in your life anymore. For me, God brought me a friend through college who had lost her mom a few years before I lost my dad. It felt good to have someone who completely understood what you were going through. Even though I had other friends, they didn't really get it because they had never lost a parent before. I'm forever grateful for God giving me a friend who understood.

Moving on is work. It's getting yourself out of bed every morning. It's realizing that although you're going through a lot, other people are too-- most being worse than what you're going through. Moving on means trusting in the fact that although your earthly father isn't here anymore, your heavenly Father is always here. He is consistent. He never changes. And He'll get you through it all, in His timing.

Low Cost Beauty Essentials

I'm one of those people who doesn't really care too much about makeup or anything else of the sort. I care more about buying cute clothes... Anywho, there are some beauty essentials that are low cost & I think every girl should have them. I have always found it silly to spend a ton of money on beauty products when there are hidden gems in your local supermarket or drug store. So check out these great products & think about adding them to your bathroom cabinet.

-EOS Lip Balm: The mint flavor of this lip balm is my absolute favorite.

-Covergirl Clean Foundation: This foundation goes on smooth, clean & makes it not feel like you're wearing a ton of makeup.

-Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Makeup Remover Wipes: If you hate taking your make up off at night like I do, these wipes are wonderful because it's a simple, one step thing.

-Maybelline The Falsies Mascara: I think I've used this mascara since it came out. I absolutely love it.

-Maybelline Eyeliner: This eyeliner goes on almost perfectly. I love the color "Coal Commander."

-Clean & Clear Acne Medicine: This acne medicine works great. It's definitely the best one I've used.

-Not Your Mother's Sea Salt Spray: I love this spray. It gives your hair that wavy feel instead of straight up curls.

-Victoria's Secret Tease Lotion: Only the best smelling lotion of all time. I also love the body spray.

What are some of your favorite low cost beauty essentials?

How I Get Ready For Fall

As you probably already know, we are entering into my favorite time of the year! I'm so excited for fall & you should be too (read this post so you know why you should be ready). Even though in good ole' Oklahoma, it doesn't really feel like fall quite yet, here are some ways I'm getting ready for it!

-Buy some cute new boots. I may have bought these from DSW in two different colors...

-Decorate the house with cute fall pillows... Such as this one from Kirkland's.

-Bring out the warm sweaters. I bought some SUPER cheap sweaters on sale at Gap at the beginning of summer. I'm talking sweaters that were originally $60+ for $8. I'm really excited to wear those. If you need a Gap sweater right now though, this one is my fav (it's also 40% off right now with the code "SAVE" at checkout).

-Burn those fall candles! Yankee Candles are my absolute favorite. They smell so good & last forever. I recently bought this scent & I'm obsessed with it.

-Hang a scarecrow, wreath or pumpkin on your front door. I bought a really cute scarecrow from Burlington Coat Factory for really cheap, but I also think this wreath is adorable.

-Drink up that PSL. I basically love anything pumpkin... But Pumpkin Spice Lattes (& the Salted Caramel Mocha that's featured right now at Starbucks as well) makes me ready for fall.

-One word: Leggings. My rule has always been, if your top covers up your booty, it is completely ok to wear leggings. So, holla!

-Start watching Christmas movies. Okay, this one really doesn't have a whole lot to do with fall, but when it gets colder outside, it makes me even more excited for my favorite holiday, Christmas! :)

How do you get ready for fall??

If My Coffee Could Speak To Me...

Good Morning, Beautiful.

I hope you rested those pretty little eyes of yours last night. I know you're super pumped to drink me this morning-- may I just say, I'm excited to see you too.

It's definitely been waaaaaay too long. Has it really been 24 hours? We have to stop waiting this long to be with each other. The separation is just too difficult. I know you feel the same. Maybe we should start seeing each other more than just once a day?

If you're ever lonely, girl, you know I'm here for you. Need a little extra encouragement to get you through your day? I'll be right here-- waiting.

While I know I'll see you tomorrow, I just wanted you to know today that I'm grateful to be a part of your life. Other drinks would be lucky to have you. I'm so glad you chose me.

Remember, without me, you're just an oridinary girl. But with me, you're a strong, successful, caffeinated young woman. I know you love me. And I love you too.

Until tomorrow,
Your Coffee

What does your coffee say to you?? Quote of the day: "Behind every successful woman is a substantial amount of coffee."

30 Things To Do In Oklahoma

Y'all, I love my state. I know so many people who just "couldn't wait to get out of here." Me on the other hand, I'd be content with staying here the rest of my life. I could totally live in a big city, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about living where the sky is open & the traffic isn't always crazy-hectic. Oklahoma is my home. You should come visit it sometime. If you're ever in our neck of the woods, here are some things you should do!

1. Go to a Thunder basketball game.

2. You MUST eat Mexican food-- here are my favorites: Tarahumara's // Alfredo's // La Luna

3. Visit the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

4. Eat at Vast on one of the top floors of the Devon Tower (we're pretty proud of our tallest building in the city).

5. Go to the Oklahoma Aquarium.

6. If you're here during Christmas time, go to the Chickasha Festival of Light.

7. Visit my favorite coffee shop of all time, Cafe Bella... Tell them Sarah sent you!

8. Try out Top Golf.

9. Take a stroll through the Turner Falls area.

10. Go to the Oklahoma City Zoo.

11. Eat a cupcake & drink some coffee at Cuppies & Joe.

12. Go to an OU or OSU football game (but you should definitely read this post before you go).

13. Visit the Paseo Arts District in OKC & eat at one of my favorite restaurants, Paseo Grill.

14. During the time of year that the Oklahoma State Fair rolls around, check it out. There's always some great people-watching out there.

15. Always check to see what's going on downtown at the Myriad Gardens!

16. If you're into hiking, head to the Arbuckle Mountains.

17. Take a stroll down Route 66 & go to Pops.

18. Eat at Irma's Burger Shack.

19. Go to the Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City if you love to drop some money.

20. If you're into running, sign up for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, The Color Run or Color Me Rad.

21. Need a little hotel/spa getaway? Check out the Artesian Hotel located in Sulfur.

22. Check out The Escape OKC if you're into solving puzzles, mysteries & working together as a team.

23. Take a tour of the Oklahoma State Capitol (I took my bridal pictures here!).

24. If you have kiddos (or even if you're a kid at heart), you should definitely check out the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum.

25. Visit the Great Salt Plains where you can dig for hourglass selenite crystals from April 1-October 15.

26. Float down the Illinois River.

27. Go to the nearest Braum's & get some ice cream. You won't be disappointed.

28. Check out the Oklahoma City Boathouse District-- there's a lot going on in that area, including the construction of our future Whitewater rafting area!

29. If you're here during the months of September-November, get lost in the largest corn maize in Oklahoma (Reding Farm) located in Chickasha.

30. Eat at Victoria's Pasta Shop for some great Italian food.

That's my list of 30 things to do in Oklahoma. Do you have anything else to add to my list? What are your favorite things to do in Oklahoma?

Murphy Loves Taylor Swift...

As many of you know, Taylor Swift is basically my homegirl. I love her. I love her music. And I love her odd love for cats (even though I'm a dog-person). I've decided that my pup, Murphy, also has a love for T. Swift. I mean, I know he can't really sing, but he does bark along with her tunes. And I'm sure he'd "fanboy" over her just like I would totally "fangirl." Knowing him though, he'd probably get a little too excited to see her that he'd have an accident... Whoops.

I'm so convinced that Murphy loves Taylor Swift, that I put together a nice photo collection of pictures of him singing T. Swift lyrics. Hope you all enjoy.

Like I said, folks. The Murphinator loves T. Swift. But really, who doesn't? And I bet Taylor would return the favor if she knew Murphy too.

Make sure you have Taylor Swift's newest CD, 1989! Buy it right HERE!

7 Reasons Why I Will & Won't Miss Summer

Honestly, I don't really care for summer all that much-- but there are a few things that I'll for sure miss about it. Since yesterday was Labor Day, summer is basically over now. Here are some reasons why I will miss summer... And a few reasons why I won't miss it.

Why I will miss it:

1. Nike Shorts

2. Longer sunny evenings

3. 7-11 Icees

4. Warm summer nights with friends

5. Flip flops & sandals

6. Summer hats

Why I won't miss it:

1. Scorching heat

2. Seeing girls who probably shouldn't be wearing bikinis

3. Mosquitos

4. Flies

5. Crickets (basically all types of bugs, I won't miss)

6. Sunburns

7. Getting in your car & burning your hand on the steering wheel

I will (kinda) miss you summer, but I'm sure ready for fall!

What are some things you will or won't miss about summer?

Sarah's Guide to the Best Fall Hats

Some of my favorite things in life include my husband, my puppy, coffee, Netflix, candles, fall & HATS. Since the beginning of the summer, I decided that I have a wonderful love for hats. My main inspiration is none other than Taza herself. Hats allow me to be stylish & cute, but not have to worry about my hair in the process (#holla). Really, it's awesome if you think about it.

If you're into the whole hat trend thing as well (or maybe you're not but you're thinking about it), here's my guide to the best fall hats.

Dear Football Fans,

I know you're all eager for football season to finally start. I remember when I used to be eager too. There's nothing like going to a football game in the fall-- soda in hand, game face on, ready to yell until your throat hurts. I'm not that way anymore though. I used to love when "my team" played. It gave me adrenaline & made me nervous all at the same time. Now, I dread football season.

PEOPLE TAKE SPORTS WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. In a world already full of hate, I dread football season because it seems like no one can get along. Fights break out, people stop talking to each other, & someone's car just might get keyed. My friend told me the other day that he was listening to a sports radio station & a woman broadcaster on there said, "I wouldn't marry someone who liked my rival team even if they were the perfect person for me other than that." THAT'S THE DUMBEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD.

I understand "friendly competition," but people take it all way too seriously. Football seems to be the most competitive sport in the United States. People will ditch their friends just to go watch the game. Or maybe they have to be watching it wherever they're at-- on their phone, a restaurant's TV, etc. It seems like our priorities are all out of whack here.

If football was still "all about the love of the game," I'd probably enjoy it again. But people have taken it to a whole new level. Football fans are often straight up MEAN.

So football fans, remember this: When it's all said & done, is it really going to matter? Is it going to matter how many games your team won, OR is it going to matter how many people you influenced in your life for the better? I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy the opening game this weekend. I'm saying, don't be hateful. Love the people from the opposite team. They're humans too.
