9 Things I Learned From The Beach

I'm a very complex person. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons of the year. I love all of the basic girl things in life-- sweaters, scarves, leggings, boots & Starbucks. But I also love the beach. I often think I could live by it. I love sticking my toes in the sand, feeling the waves run across my feet. It's a liberating feeling.

The beach also taught me a few things though when I was in Montego Bay, Jamaica last week. Here are 9 things I learned from the beach!

1. Some people are fully confident in themselves.

2. Some people have no respect for others' eyes.

3. Some people drink at 9:00 in the morning.

4. Some people steal all the good chairs early.

5. Some people walk a lot on the beach.

6. Some people feel the need to expose too much of their bottoms.

7. Some people don't care about the possibility of skin cancer.

8. Some people look like a burnt waffle.

9. Some people have really entertaining kids who pull their pants down on the beach because they think it's okay to go to the restroom in the water.

Has the beach ever taught you anything?

Jamaica Mon!

Last week, Andrew & I spent a few days in Montego Bay, Jamaica! We had a fabulous time & want to thank The Oasis at Sunset for making our stay great! If you're thinking about going on a trip to Jamaica, check them out. They have great prices, a clean resort & friendly staff. They're also currently in the process of rebranding their name to Sunscape Cove Resort & Spa effective next month!

Most of our days were spent on the beach or in the pool. It was definitely a nice, relaxing vacation! I thought I would share some pictures with you all so you can experience some of the beauty of Jamaica too!

Thanks, Jamaica! We had a blast! Have you ever been to Jamaica? Did you like it??

10 Things That Are Better Than Participating In Black Friday

Ah, Black Friday-- an American tradition. Remember the good ole days when Black Friday was actually on Friday? Now it's intruding on our annual day of thanks. I'm not against Black Friday. I'm not even against going shopping on Thursday night. But here are 10 things that are better than participating in Black Friday.

1. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

2. Running a marathon.

3. Scratching your nails on a chalkboard.

4. Participating in a 24 hour dance marathon.

5. Walking across the United States without shoes on.

6. Burning your tongue on hot coffee.

7. Watching Shia LaBoeuf watch his own movies

8. Swimming with sharks.

9. Walking on the interstate.

10. Being chosen for The Hunger Games.

Okay, maybe those are a little dramatic. I'm sure I'll go buy something on Black Friday (or Black Thursday night). But you got to admit, it's a mad house out there huh?

Are you participating in Black Friday? If you are, may the odds be ever in your favor.

What To Give To The Person Who "Has It All"

It's no secret, I love Christmas time. I'm already thinking about all of the presents I need to buy for this upcoming season. But let's be real, sometimes it's hard. I mean, what do you get for the person who really does "have it all?"

Here are my suggestions on what to give to the person who has it all!

-Gift Card. This one is clearly an easy go-to option. Think of things that are out of the ordinary though-- a massage, Redbox, etc. We all love gift cards & in my opinion, you can never go wrong with one. Just make sure it's to some place they like!

-Date Night. Giving to someone who has kids? Tell them you'll buy their dinner (With a gift card... Eh? See what I did there?) & then watch their kids for free while they enjoy a night out. Sometimes the person who has it all just needs a date night!

-Meaningful Jewelry. Most women are sentimental people... & usually they like jewelry too. Hey June Shop on Etsy has a ton of cute, memorable stuff that are great gift ideas. I'm not even much of a jewelry person & I love this shop. I especially love the fact that you can buy something that has a meaning behind it. Also, TODAY ONLY, they're having a sale. Check out Hey June's Instagram to find out more.

-Favorite Things. I love giving this gift. I was inspired when Oprah used to do her "Favorite Things" show way back when. Give the things that you know your friend loves-- maybe it's a movie or a gift card to her favorite nail salon or even socks. They can be small things that you fill up in a basket with snacks & other goodies. Get creative with this one & have fun with it!

-A Memory. Sometimes the best gift you can give someone is simply a memory. Go on a weekend road trip or get tickets to a concert. Hey, if you're even crazy enough to do it (& they are too), give them a chance to go skydiving with you. Making memories is such a great thing in life. What better way to give than to give someone something they can hold onto for the rest of their life!

-A Class. This one can sometimes go along with the memory one, but for the person who has it all, give them a fun class they've been wanting to do. Maybe it's a cooking class or an art class. Or if they're a blogger, buy them Quit Your Job to Blog by Helene this holiday season. If you know something they've been wanting to do but they've just never got around to it, giving them a class is a great & fun gift!

What do you give to the person who "has it all?"

We All Need A Little Vacation

Last week, Andrew & I were in Montego Bay, Jamaica! It was AWESOME & we had a great time relaxing on the beach all day (don't be jealous, guys). But I decided that I was going to take a blog vacation last week as well. I've done really good being consistent since I started blogging back in March, but I figured everyone needs a break every now & then!

Sometimes, the best way for you to not get burned out on doing something is to take a vacation from it-- even if it's something you absolutely love. I love to blog. And let me just say, I missed it last week. But I'm thankful to have taken a vacation from it.

So yeah, we all need a little vacation every now & then, but don't worry y'all, I'll be back on the grind this week! Keep up with me on social media (links below) to see the latest updates on Cunningham Love Story! And have a Happy Thanksgiving week :)

"Who Me?!" Nominated for the Liebster Award!

Guys, the blogging world is awesome. Every day, I'm constantly blown away by the community of amazing people here. With that being said, did you know that there are blogging awards? With me still being a "newbie" blogger, I really had no idea.

But my lovely blogging friend, Sarena from Teal Inspiration sure did. She nominated me for the Liebster Award last week! Sarena is such an inspiring blogger. Similar to myself, she is also fairly new to the blogging world but she has taken off by storm. Her blog is so neat & professional. She is an all around true lifestyle blogger meaning, she blogs about fashion, beauty, DIY, food & much more! You can see her post where she nominated me here. Thank you SO MUCH for the nomination, Sarena! :)

So you may be thinking to yourself, "What is the Liebster Award anyway?" And let me just be honest with you, until last week, I had no idea either! (Also, side note: Every time I type "Liebster" autocorrect kicks in & says "Lobster." I mean, in case you were wondering.)

The Liebster Award is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers. It's basically all virtual, but it's a great way to pay-it-forward. The award gives you the opportunity to network with other bloggers, encourage each other & support one another.

The rules of the Liebster Award are:

1. Post your award to the blog.
2. Thank the blogger who nominated you & link their blog.
3. Answer the questions you were given by the person who nominated you.
4. Nominate a small group of bloggers you recently discovered.
5. Create 10 questions for the nominees to answer.

So here are the questions that Sarena gave me with my answers!

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

I started reading other people's blogs & one day thought to myself, "Why can't I blog? It would be so much fun!" Little did I know that it would not only become my hobby, but something I am truly passionate about.

2. If you could choose anywhere in the world to take a vacation, where would you go?

If I could go absolutely anywhere, I'd definitely choose Venice, Italy. I've always been in awe of its beauty & of course, I want to ride in a gondola! I just think that it's a breathtaking place that would be an amazing place to go.

3. Where would you like your blog to be in the long term?

I would love for my blog to continue to grow. It has grow a lot recently & it makes me super excited for the future. I would one day like to make money consistently from it, but more importantly, I want to gain a community of readers who love my blog.

4. How did you meet your husband?

(I actually just wrote a post about how Andrew & I fell in love!) We met at our church a loooooong time ago. I honestly don't even remember actually ever "meeting" him, I just feel like I've always known him! I grew up in our church so I've gone there my entire life, while Andrew is 5 years older than me & he came to our church when he was in elementary school. We really got to know each other when I was in junior high & were friends ever since. It's great marrying someone who you're not only in love with, but you're also best friends with!

5. What is your favorite show to watch on Netflix?

Oh man, I'm pretty passionate about this one. Hands down, Grey's Anatomy. I've watched a lot of shows on Netflix-- Gossip Girl, Lost, One Tree Hill, Scandal, etc. but this one has instantly became my favorite (and probably my all time favorite show ever). I just love Meredith Grey. And Shonda Rhimes (the creator of Grey's) sure knows how to tug on your heart strings in that show. I applaud her for that skill.

6. Which of your blog posts was your favorite to write so far?

Honestly, my favorite posts are probably about Andrew & I. I'm still a sappy newlywed who is in love with her husband. The one I wrote the other day is probably a new favorite of mine. But I'm also a really sarcastic person. I enjoy writing about things that (I think) are funny. Or about things that I think need to be said. Such as my post about leggings from the other day. On another personal note though, some of my most popular posts have been about me being open about my dad passing away. Like this post I wrote on Father's Day. I'm really a person who is all over the place, that's why I love that Helene says it's okay to have "nicheless" blog.

7. What are you hoping Santa will bring you this Christmas?

I'm hoping that Santa (ahem, Andrew) will bring me a new MacBook. My poor little white MacBook is just about to bite the dust. It got me all the way through college & it's about done its time. Poor thing just needs a rest! I'm definitely eyeing the MacBook Pro this time around, especially since blogging is so important to me.

8. What has been the most challenging part of blogging for you?

The most challenging part of blogging has probably been just realizing that you're not going to be "famous" over night. It takes work to get page views. But in a way, I think that's why it's so rewarding too. I get so excited when a post does awesome! As a blogger, it's an amazing feeling.

9. Is there one food or meal you simply couldn’t live without?

I mean if I couldn't have potatoes of any kind in my life, I would probably be a cranky person. Don't get me wrong, I love Chinese, Mexican, Italian & American food, but those potatoes though.. French fries are basically my guilty pleasure. Bad day? There's a French fry that can fix that. But I pretty much love potatoes cooked just about any other way too!

10. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is definitely the community of bloggers. I feel like I've made so many friends already. I've also learned a lot from them too. Especially Helene whom I've taken plenty of free webinars & ecourses from like Quit Your Job to Blog. Like I said earlier, the blogging community is amazing-- it's so encouraging, supportive & motivating!

And finally, I'm nominating Brittany from The Lady Lawyer! I discovered Brittany's Instagram when I did the Instagram challenge with Helene back in April & July. Her cute, eye-catching Instagram made me curious to read her blog & I've been reading it ever since. I feel like we share similarities because she started blogging back in March as well! Congrats, Brittany!

A photo posted by Brittany (@ladylawyerbrittany) on

Here are my questions for you:

1. What made you decide to start a blog?
2. If you could hang out with any blogger for the day, who would it be?
3. How do you balance blogging & working as a lawyer?
4. What's your favorite thing to do in your state, Kentucky?
5. What do you like to do in your free time besides blogging?
6. What is your favorite clothing item you own?
7. What's on your wishlist this holiday season?
8. Tell us about your fur babies!
9. What are you watching on TV, Hulu or Netflix right now?
10. What's the biggest thing you've learned about blogging so far?

I'm so excited to hear Brittany's answers! Keep an eye out for them on her blog!

Have you ever been nominated for the Liebster Award? Have you ever heard of it before now?

Marry Someone You Love

It sounds so simple doesn't it? Marry someone you love. I mean, getting married & being in love go hand in hand right? Not necessarily. The word "love" gets thrown around in our world so much. Whether it's talking about a sweater at Target or a person we're fond of, we're all "in love."

Love is so much more.

When I met Andrew, it wasn't "love at first sight." Probably due to the fact that he was starting high school when I was still in elementary (5 year age difference). But over the years, we became friends. Not only did we become friends, we eventually became close friends.

All of a sudden, I found myself realizing I was crushing over a boy who was 23 & I was only 18. Finally, I got up the courage to tell this 23 year old boy that I liked him. He wasn't too quick to respond. Even though I knew he liked me back, it took him about a month to tell me.

We didn't date right away though. Andrew wanted to be sure he was ready to date someone who was so much younger than him. Eventually he realized it was fine to date me...

It took us 4 months to finally go on a real date. But during that waiting process, I believe we began to fall in love. I know the exact moment I realized I loved him.

Andrew was playing flag football at the time & I just HAD to go watch him at every single game. I rode with him there & back home. The Sunday before his game though, he sang a song special in church. I missed it because I had to work, so I kept bugging him about how I never heard it. On our way home from the flag football game, I had to go to the restroom really bad so we stopped at a McDonald's. I ran inside while he stayed in the car. When I got back in the car, he had this smile on his face I'll never forget.

I asked him what he was doing while he pushed "play" on his CD player. He started to sing for me the song he sang in church. While he was singing, that's when I knew. I knew I loved him. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. And I knew it was going to happen.

Our relationship continued to grow after that. We eventually started dating. And then my dad died about a month into it. I always wondered why my dad died & what "good" was going to come of it. I think because of my dad passing away so unexpectedly, that's when Andrew realized he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me too.

Andrew took care of me. He came over every night & let me cry on him. He was always there for me. He IS always there for me. Our relationship became strong. And I believe it's so strong because of what we've been through together. We learned how to talk to each other. How to be real with each other. And most importantly, how to put each other's needs before our own.

I think that's love.

Love is putting each other first. Love is selfless. Love is kind. Love is pure. Love is work. It hasn't always been easy, but it's been so worth it.

I got married to Andrew last year... I can definitely say, I'm married to the one I love. And I'm forever thankful for him.

When You Don't Know What To Say...

It's Monday & I currently don't have a "point" to this post. I've literally sat here staring at the blank "write a post" screen for 45 minutes. Still nothing. Sometimes you just have those days-- you're worn out & your brain decided to stay in bed this morning & in fact, you're wishing you were in bed with it. So since it IS Monday & I DON'T know what to say, here are some random things that I thought I'd share with you.

-I'm participating in a November Instagram photo challenge using the hashtag #pluckytonothin. It's been a lot of fun! Join in on the challenge using the hashtag. (The photo from above was my picture from yesterday.)

-We had a garage sale this weekend. My mom & I ran the show with some help from our friends. We did pretty good & got rid of a lot of stuff-- so that's good.

-I can't stop watching this video from Ellen. Especially after I posted this post about Adele a couple of weeks ago.

-I'm really pumped about going to Jamaica next week. I may already have some stuff set out for packing purposes...

-I'm basically obsessed with this new scarf I bought from Target. It's AMAZING. And they have like a bazillion different colors. Okay, like 5 or something. It's also 20% off this week. Go, go, go!

-I'm also eyeing those Lush Bath Bombs. Why I have I never tried one?? Probably because I typically don't take baths. But who says I can't start now?

-Oh, & back to Adele, have you seen this video yet? It's super cute.

-Now, about Christmas-- Did you see that they put up the Rockefeller Center Tree in NYC on Friday? Hallelujah. Christmas is almost here.

-I've also been watching "The Today Show" like every morning while drinking my coffee. I feel so mature.

-Finally, one more video.

Happy Monday, y'all. Hope it's a good one!

The Unwritten Rules on Leggings

Leggings. I love them. I don't care what anyone else says about them. I know a lot of people who are "anti-leggings." And we've all heard it a million times, "LEGGINGS AREN'T PANTS!" True, I don't think that leggings are pants, BUT...

Leggings are perfectly fine.

*(If worn properly that is.)*

As women, we should all be aware of the unwritten rules on leggings. Didn't know there were rules? Well I'm here to tell you them today.

Rule #1: Leggings must be worn under the right circumstances. Planning to go to prom? Don't wear leggings. Planning on going to dinner with friends? It's okay to wear leggings.

Rule #2: Leggings must be worn with a top that covers one's booty. A common mistake for a lot of women. But your top needs to be long enough. No one needs to see your rear end. Even if you think it's cute, it's not to those of us who have to see it in the produce section. It looks like you should be hanging out at Walmart. But then again, maybe that's where I found the inspiration for this rule.

Rule #3: Leggings must be worn accordingly to one's body type. I think that every woman has the right to wear leggings (I mean hello, women's rights duh). But I think AS WOMEN, we should know what is appropriate for our body types. Let's remember to leave some things to the imagination. People shouldn't have to see all your "goodies."

Rule #4: Leggings must be worn only as leggings, not as tights. Tights are completely different from leggings. My husband, Andrew, commonly mistakes the two (it's ok, honey). Tights are to be worn with properly termed dresses & skirts (not tunics, long tops, sweaters, etc.). Tights are typically more sheer than leggings & have feet in them. Remember, leggings & tights are two different things.

Rule #5: Leggings must be thick enough so no one can see through them. I have a variety of different thicknesses of leggings. Of course, I have lighter-weight ones for spring & summer, but I also have thicker ones that are fleece lined & such for fall & winter. As long as you wear thick enough ones where no one can see what color & pattern your undergarments are, I think it is a-okay. Keeping in mind rule #2 though.

There you have it, 5 simple unwritten (now written) rules on leggings. I think modesty is important, & I believe it can totally be achieved while wearing leggings. Also, there are way too many, much more important things going on in our world today rather than the topic of "should women be wearing leggings?" As long as you know the rules, I think you can rock the leggings trend. Plus, they're so comfy, who wouldn't want to wear them?

What do you think? Are you pro-leggings or anti-leggings?

How I Know I'm A Crazy Dog Mom

Let's face it. I'm absolutely obsessed with my dog, Murphy. I bugged Andrew to get me a dog for sooooo long. And then we finally got him. It was actually quite unexpected. But that story is for another time.

Like I said, I'm obsessed. He's just so stinkin' cute. No one can tell me any different. I'm a crazy dog mom. I even wrote a previous post about why dog moms are basically real moms. Nonetheless, here are some ways I KNOW I'm a crazy dog mom.

-I talk to Murphy. Like all the time. Most people probably talk to their dogs. But Andrew & I have full on conversations with Murphy. We even talk as if we're him. Andrew & I have realized that we now do it SO often, we don't even recognize that we're doing it anymore.

-I sing to Murphy. Not only do I sing to him, but I make up new songs for him. I change words in popular songs such as, "Oh Murphy you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind. Hey Murphy, hey Murphy." Or the song that I personally wrote the lyrics to the first day we got him, "Murphy, my sweet Murphy. Murphy, my sweet boy." (I'm thinking about copyrighting that-- no one steal it!)

-I cuddle with Murphy. Andrew is over there talking like Murphy: "Mom, you're squeezing me to death!"

-I take forever saying "bye" to Murphy. "Bye, Murphy! I'll miss you! I love you! You're my sweet, baby boy! I'll be back in a little while! Have a great day! Mommy loves you, Murphy! I promise I'll be home in a little bit! Be a good boy!"....... And it goes on & on. Finally Murphy says, "Bye Mom. Just leave already. I'm ready to take a nap."

-I take forever saying "hi" to Murphy. "Murphy! My sweet sugar-booger! I'm so happy to see you! I missed you SO much! I love you! You're my sweet boy!"....... And it goes on & on. Until finally, Murphy says, "Okay, Mom. I'm SUPER excited to see you too, but right now, my bladder is about to explode if you don't hurry up & OPEN THAT BACKDOOR."

-I hold Murphy like a baby. I'm basically the only one he lets do that to him too. I guess you can say that we have a mother-son bond.

-I love Murphy unconditionally. Murphy still LOVES to bite. And chew. And attack Andrew & I. And poop on the carpet. But we love him regardless. It's pretty crazy how you can love a dog this much. I can't imagine what I'll be like with a human child someday.

Yeah, so what? I'm a crazy dog mom. I'm okay with that. He's my baby. And I'm his momma. Don't judge me, yo.

Any other crazy dog moms out there?!

10 Ways to Give This Holiday Season

Is it already that time of year again? The time where we gather around as families, eat way too much & decorate for Christmas. I think that this year has probably been one of the fastest.

The bottom line is though, I absolutely love this time of year. I look forward to it all year long. I even wrote this post on why you should treat every day like Christmas.

Everyone always asks you, "So, are you ready for the holidays?" And I feel like I should respond like this, "Ugh, I suppose so." But in reality, I'm over here like "HECK YEAH I'M READY, BABY!" Kidding, maybe not that enthusiastic...... Then again...

I'm always ready for Christmas, but Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays, if not my second favorite. I love the meaning behind it & the reminder that we should be thankful-- every day. I also love giving back. I clearly think you should always be giving throughout the year, but this is such a great time of year to give. It often seems as if there are so many more opportunities to give during this festive time. So here are 10 ways that YOU can give during this holiday season!

1. Volunteer somewhere.

2. Pay for someone else's drink or meal behind you in the drive-thru line.

3. Take part in a gift-giving project for kids who often don't get any presents.

4. Make a meal for someone.

5. Be a "Secret Santa" to a family you know is struggling.

6. Place a gift card or money in an unexpected place such as a grocery store, gas pump, Redbox movie case, etc.
7. As a church, friend group, etc., do a service project for a place that helps people in your community.

8. Take (store bought) cookies, gifts, etc. to your local police officers & firefighters to thank them for helping keep your community safe.

9. Give a waiter or waitress who is having a rough night serving, an extra large tip for their hard work.

10. Run an errand for someone who isn't able to.

What ways are you giving this holiday season?
