6 Valentine's Day Ideas-- That Won't Break The Bank!

It's really no secret that I love Valentine's Day. I know a lot of people "roll their eyes" at the thought of the holiday, but I don't. I get giddy & do some of the cheesiest things. Last year I found some sticky hearts in the Target dollar section to decorate my husband, Andrew's, mirror in our bathroom. I just love celebrating a day that reminds you to tell the people around you how much you love them!

Maybe you're a sceptic-- I don't blame you. Valentine's Day can come with a lot of expectations that intimidate you. It can also be super expensive. Or maybe you're on the other side of things & love Valentine's Day like myself, but don't want to spend a ton of money to celebrate the holiday. Either way, today I'm going to share with you how to have the best Valentine's Day with your love in a cost-friendly way! Because who wants to spend $100 for roses? Not me.

1. Write a sweet, sappy love letter.
Tell your love how much they mean to you. Writing something down has so much more meaning than just saying it in passing. It's also something that your special someone can hold onto forever. Andrew & I write each other love notes randomly & I've kept them all. There's no better way to tell someone you care than by expressing it with words on a sheet of paper.

2. Cook a romantic dinner at home-- mood-lighting & all!
Get dressed up, light some candles, play some music, & cook up a "fancy" dinner at home. Who says you have to go out to a restaurant & spend $50 a plate? If you're looking for some nice, easy meals, the Pioneer Woman is my current go-to favorite on recipes. And guys, in case you're wondering, pasta is cheap & usually super easy to make! :)

3. Musically talented? Sing him/her a song.
Cheesy? Maybe. But I'll tell you, the moment I knew I loved Andrew was the first time he sang to me. Pick a song that tells your love how you feel & sing it out loud to them.

4. Go on a picnic.
Now, I know some of you are saying, "Okay, but it's like -10 degrees outside, how am I supposed to do that?" It's okay... Create an indoor picnic! Get a blanket, bring a basket with food & cuddle up in front of the fireplace. Some of the best dates are the ones you have at home.

5. Buy flowers and chocolate.
"Whoa, Sarah. I thought we were talking about things that WON'T break the bank." Hold on tight & let me explain. I love getting flowers. They're one of my "little joys" in life. And hint-hint, wink-wink to Andrew, I always want flowers for Valentine's day. But the classic Valentine's Day flower, roses, definitely aren't cheap during this time of year. So here's what you do: Go to the flower market or even a place like Sam's or Costco & you'll find flowers that are a lot cheaper than buying them at a flower shop. Make sure to buy flowers that are in season, they're always cheaper. And while you're at it, get your love some chocolate. Maybe make your own chocolate covered strawberries at home, or find a recipe for your love's favorite dessert. Andrew always loves when I make him no-bake cookies for a present!

6. Go on a driving date.
Start off the date by driving to the place you first met each other. Then drive to the place you asked him/her out. Keep going to all of the places where you had your "firsts" & then end the night with going someplace you've never been before. It doesn't have to be a place that's fancy or expensive, it can even be just a place where you hold hands & walk around... Just make it meaningful & memorable. It will be a night that you two will never forget!

  1. Such cute ideas! We still don't have plans for Valentine's Day but I think we're going to go out for a nice (hopefully romantic) dinner :)

    1. Thanks girl! I hope you guys have a great Valentine's Day! We're planning on going out to dinner on Saturday! :)

  2. I love the love letter idea! My husband used to write me short notes when I left on a trip. Made me feel warm and bubbly while I was gone! I miss those days.

    1. I love getting notes & letters! It really does make you feel good, doesn't it?

  3. These are such sweet ideas! One of our favorites was the year that we made homemade cards for each other together. We were sitting side by side, flirting, and "hiding" our art work from each other. Glue sticks, glitter, and construction paper. It was a cheap and cute date night. :) Typically we don't do much for Valentine's day because we got engaged on February 7th so we do something special for that instead. But I am all for spreading love on Valentine's! :)

  4. I love the letter idea! We just got married so it would be fun to reminisce on how we met. I think we are going to dinner a day before. Have a wonderful weekend!

    XO Chelsea

  5. I love these! At home dates can be so much fun!
