Baby Bump: 28 Weeks

Well, we're finally in the third trimester! I seriously can't believe it. On one hand I feel like I've been pregnant a long time & on the other, I feel like it's flown by.

I'm about to start going to appointments every two weeks (starting Monday!). And then in the middle-ish of September I'll start going every week. If you read my last post on a recap of the second trimester, you probably saw that I passed my glucose test so I'm happy for that! August is a super busy month for us. We have baby showers & lots of birthing/baby classes. It's all starting to feel much more real!

So here's the latest scoop on my baby bump!

Baby: About the size of a head of cauliflower or a coconut (approximately 16 in, 2.5 lbs).

How I feel: I think I finally hit my pregnancy wall ha. Lately I feel like I'm carrying a 100 pound basketball in my stomach & the heat really hasn't been my BFF. I've had a few leg cramps randomly, but mainly my back/tail bone area has been my biggest issue. I also think I did something to my knee recently(? ha). Every time I bend down using my knees, it hurts.. So my guess is that I pulled something because it's only in my left knee. I'm also pretty confident I had my first case of Braxton-Hicks the other night. So that was lovely.

Food: I really haven't been craving anything lately. I still want an Icee pretty much everyday, but I think one reason for that is because it's so stinkin' hot outside! I've been trying to be good about what I eat, but I'm also trying to remember to give myself some grace. Growing a baby is hard work, y'all. So sometimes I need that ice cream! Other times I realize I don't need it & I've tried to restrain. It's a work in progress ;)

Clothing: Ha! Remember that time I said, "Maybe I can get away with not needing maternity clothes"? That was funny. I've not bought anything technically labeled "maternity" lately, but I have been buying a size up. I have one pair of jeans that I referenced the other day as my "old faithfuls" because I can still button them. I don't know how. They must be a part of the same line of jeans that the girls from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants wore. Either way, they're my favorite because they still fit me. Most of the time, I'm in Nike shorts or a dress. I do have some maternity shorts that I can wear with cute tops & they're good too. Pretty soon I'll be looking into more maternity/nursing friendly items of clothing.

Sleep: Can't say enough good things about my Boomerang pillow still. Seriously, if you're pregnant, having a hard time sleeping & are wondering if one of those fancy-smancy $50+ pillows is worth it, try this pillow first. And use your $5 off or 20% off coupon from Bed Bath & Beyond for it. In other news of sleep though, I'm still tossing & turning a lot, but it's not been that bad. I've been extremely tired lately. I've been extra thankful for the past couple of mornings I have been able to sleep in!

Best moment of the week: My app says that I can start feeling our baby hiccup now. I maaay have felt that, but I'm really not confident ha.

What I'm looking forward to: So much! We're having our first baby shower next week & then another one two days after that! I'm excited to officially get her room in order. We still have little things to do like hang curtains & decor, but it's coming together! I'm also looking forward to our 4D ultrasound we're going to have of her next weekend! I'm hoping we can see her cute little facial features :). Ultimately, I'm just straight up excited to meet her soon!

Things I Want To Remember: The 2nd Trimester

As the third trimester is quickly approaching (this Friday!), I wanted to reflect on all of the things I want to remember about my second trimester with our sweet baby girl. I can't believe that here in about 12 weeks (give or take) we will be holding her in our arms, wondering what to do & how to make her happy haha.

-I felt our baby girl move for the first time on Andrew's birthday (May 15). He felt her move a few weeks after. Now we both feel her & see her kick all of the time. Basically she thinks her mom is a punching bag. But I'm okay with it. I'm pretty confident I'll miss these punches & kicks one day.

-We found out we're having a girl on May 20!

-We painted her room, set up her crib & a few other furniture items.

-We registered for her at Babies R Us & Target.

-We officially decided on her name! :)

-We took our first parenting class & signed up for all of the rest we're going to take in the next couple of months.

-We got our Tdap shots (Woot woot!.. Or should I say whoop whoop?! Too much?).

-We started getting Murphy prepared for his new sister by enrolling him in dog training. He had his first lesson the other day & isn't doing too bad!

-I passed my glucose test with flying colors! Everyone said, "Don't get the orange & make sure it's cold." Well, I got the orange & it was room temperature. I survived. And it really wasn't bad at all. My guess is people are just dramatic.

-I am doing a Bible study with some lovely mommas & soon-to-be mommas via the internet. The internet can be terrible, but it can also be encouraging when a group of women are studying the Word of God together all over the country. We're going through the book Missional Motherhood. Check it out if you're a mom.

-They say that the second trimester is like the "honeymoon phase" of pregnancy. Well honestly, my pregnancy has really been easy for me (thank you, Lord!) but around the last half of this trimester, I started feeling a little more "pregnant." Things aren't as easy as they once were. My back aches most of the time. I could take a 3 hour nap every day. And my belly feels huge. But at the same time, I really do think I've been blessed with having a fairly "easy" pregnancy & I wouldn't trade it for the world.

-I didn't gain any weight at all during the first trimester. This trimester I've gained a lot. And I mean a lot. People keep telling me "you don't even really look like you've gained weight" or "it's all in your belly" & "you'll lose it all once you have her." All of those things might be true, but my weight has definitely been the thing I've been most concerned about this pregnancy. I don't know why. It just bothers me a lot. (I blame it on the hormones!) And clearly I know that I have to gain a certain amount of weight for my baby to be healthy, but it's still hard to watch the numbers on the scale go up. Especially since I've never gained this much weight before. My doctor made me feel better the other day about it though. (Praise the Lord for good doctors!) I'm just praying that the whole weight thing won't steal my joy!

These are the things I want to remember about the second trimester. Some of them are exciting & others are somewhat personal. But I'm so excited to finally hold our baby in my arms here in a couple of months!

Baby Bump: 25 Weeks

I feel like it's been a while since I've posted a baby bump update! Don't worry though, I'll fill you all in today. Tomorrow I'll be 26 weeks, so I'm squeezing in my 25 week update today! Some exciting stuff has gone on recently.. We registered this past weekend at Babies "R" Us & Target! Feel free to look at our registry & buy us stuff ;). We also celebrated my birthday last week & obviously the 4th!

My next doctor's appointment is on Monday. I have the pleasure of doing my glucose test that day as well too ha. I'm hopeful I'll only have to do the 1 hour test, so here's to that! Starting next month, I'll be going to the doctor every other week & then in September, I'll be going weekly. It's crazy to think that our baby girl will be here before we know it! Ahh!

So here's all of the baby bump details!

Baby: About the size of a Napa cabbage or rutabaga (literally don't know what either of those technically look like... But she's around 9 inches, 1.7 pounds).

How I feel: I still feel good for the most part, but lately there's some days I just feel "pregnant" haha. There's literally no other way for me to describe it. My belly has felt huge recently & sometimes it feels like I have to swing it around when I move. My back bothers me some & my feet are occasionally starting to swell if I'm on them too long. Overall though, I still am thankful I feel as good as I do.

Food: I really haven't been "craving" much anymore. I still am a big Icee fan, but I'll pretty much eat anything. Nothing really sounds overly good or bad. I'm just good with food of any sort!

Clothing: I haven't bought anything else "maternity" lately. I'm getting away with wearing big/loose clothing. I've tried on a few things I wore last summer & "put them away" until next summer because they definitely don't fit. Old Navy has been my BFF this summer, y'all. So many good sales. So many good loose clothing options. It's a pregnant girl's dream.

Sleep: My Boomerang pillow has been a lifesaver. I still wake up anytime I turn over, & I have to go to the bathroom a lot, but it's really not that bad. Last night was the first time our baby girl's kicks woke me up in the middle of the night. I was already kind of restless, but she started kicking me pretty hard & it definitely woke me up. So I just got up to go to the bathroom & when I got back in bed, she stopped. So I guess she was trying to tell me to go pee haha!

Best moment of the week: Registering was a lot of fun.. I even think Andrew enjoyed it! He especially got into the clothing part :). We had fun imagining all of these things being used by our baby girl.

What I'm looking forward to: Man, there's so many things! I'm looking forward to meeting her. I still love feeling her, even though a few of them have kind of hurt lately. I'm hoping though that I'll be able to see a foot or a handprint on my stomach from her soon.. That'd be awesome! I'm also looking forward to getting all of her nursery organized & officially put together once we start getting stuff for her. I'm so excited to hold this sweet baby girl in my arms!
